Diabetes, inflammation, weight gain…

Wow! I learnt so much and will be able to help you even more with your health and well-being

I’ve been listening to a diabetes summit this week with some amazingly knowledgeable presenters with professions and backgrounds in functional, traditional, naturopathic education, interests, experience and practice.

I will just quickly share a small snippet with you…

Look after your gut health first

Take care to avoid (as much as you can), toxins from food, plastic containers, cleaners, cosmetic

Dietary fibre is really helpful in balancing blood sugar

Another good reason to use coconut oil is that saturated fats cannot be oxidized and can’t be damaged by toxic chemicals (free radicals)

The immune system regulates itself so make sure you’re not deficient in Vitamin D, zinc and magnesium. Eat bone broth (and eat organ meat) to get glycene in your diet.

It’s not just about diet, if you’re not consistently getting enough sleep you’re damaging your immune system

 Absolutely fascinating!

I have worked with many clients who have been either pre-diabetic, diabetic and also helped clients reverse their type II diabetes. So I was interested to hear and learn more on the subject, especially new scientific research and tried and tested natural remedies and the possible causes.

I didn’t expect to learn as much as I did about gut health, thyroid problems, and the any other autoimmune diseases there are and was interested to hear about how our immune system gets stressed and the impact on our body systems.

I have a real passion for food being our medicine and there was a lot of information on how diet effects inflammation and also learnt about the many different herbs and natural remedies that can be used to decrease the risk of auto immune system.

I now have to make sense of the notes I have made and do some further research that will help me to help you and share strategies to help with your health and well-being.

If you’re interesting in hearing more about any of these subjects please email me and tell me what you’re interested in. I will let you know when I write or set up courses on the subject. info@getfit2.co.uk

Trillions of them…

How is your microflora today?

Your gut is the body’s largest immune organ and this is where your microflora lives… trillions of good and bad bacteria!

The balance of those good (70%) and bad (30%) bacteria is needed for immune function…and the basis of many other body systems to work

Naturally fermented foods such as cottage cheese, miso, soy sauce, fresh sauerkraut and also bio-yoghurts and kefir (a fermented milk drink) contain healthy bacteria.

If you have

  • recently taken antibiotics

  • had a bout of sickness or diarrhoea or

  • are generally feeling unwell

invest in a probiotic supplement to give your gut a healthy chance of fighting back.

Optibac is a make I have used, available in Superdrugs, Boots and also online (a few pence cheaper!)

Take care of your gut health as it supports many other body systems.

Turkish Words and Gut Health

Kefir – what and why?

I’ve been making my own Kefir. Why? Because it has loads of healthy gut bacteria.

It comes from the Turkish word ‘keif’ which means good feeling. It is a sort of fermented yoghurt drink full of probiotics, the microbes that live in our gut.

The health benefits are

  • boosting immunity

  • calming inflammation

  • helping digestion and

  • creating amino acids (protein) and vitamins.

I’m going to try it with coconut milk next time.

Once you have the ‘grains’ (which don’t look like grains at all…I would call them curds!) it is so easy to make.

Autumnal Soup and Bugs!

Autumn Getfit2.co.ukSo the clocks have now gone back signalling the end of summer and this means we have officially moved into autumn and then comes winter.

I’ve been working in schools and mixing with lots of people which makes the odds for catching any bug going round higher than normal….and if you have children they will no doubt bring home the bugs to share with you.

So now is a good time to boost your immune system and dose up on:  » Read more
